BI-LO, Harveys and Winn-Dixie Grocery Stores to Support Katie's Krops With Fall Promotion

Summerville, SC - September 18, 2014 - This fall BI-LO, Harveys, and Winn-Dixie grocery stores have joined Katie's Krops to inspire parents and children to lead healthier lifestyles by eating more fresh produce. From Sept. 10 to Oct. 7, a percentage of every specially marked fruit or vegetable purchased will be donated to Katie's Krops to support Katie's dream of 500 gardens across all 50 states by 2018.

Select store locations also will host in-store educational sampling events that will feature kid-friendly items from produce sponsors, including Dole Fresh Vegetables, Reichel Foods, Country Fresh, Ready Pac, Buddy Fruit, Starr Ranch, Bolthouse Farms, Wonderful Brands, Sage Fruit, and Dayka Hackett.

"Through our ongoing partnership with Katie's Krops and our produce sponsors we have a unique opportunity to encourage children to taste, smell, feel, and ultimately enjoy trying new produce that they may have never explored," explained Bob Denomme, Bi-Lo Holdings vice president of produce. "We welcome all our customers to join us as we expand our partnership with Katie's Krops and to visit your local BI-LO, Harveys, or Winn-Dixie to partake in the fun of trying something new."

This is one more element in the on-going partnership between Katie's Krops and BI-LO, Harveys, and Winn-Dixie. Since July, special Katie's Krops bins have been placed in all stores to provide a designated location for kid-friendly fruits in the produce department and to help raise awareness and funds for Katie's Krops throughout the Southeast. Each time the specified fruit is purchased from the bin, a portion of the proceeds benefits Katie's Krops, whose mission is to end hunger one vegetable garden at a time.

About Katie's Krops
Katie's Krops empowers youth across the country to end hunger in their communities, one vegetable garden at a time. Founded by 16-year-old Katie's Stagliano who at the tender age of 9 donated a 40 pound cabbage to a soup kitchen where it fed 275. Moved by the experience, she started Katie's Krops which currently has 80 youth-run gardens in 29 states.

Katie's Krops expands their young growing family by hosting an annual grant cycle. Youth, ages 9 to 16, apply to receive funding to start a Katie's Krops vegetable garden in their community, in which the whole harvest is donated to people in need. In addition, young Katie's Krops growers are eligible to attend an all-expenses-paid annual Katie's Krops Summer Camp and continuous funds to sustain their gardens for years to come.

Katie's Krops wouldn't be able to thrive without the support of individual donations and sponsors. To learn more about supporting the cause visit katieskrops.com and click donate.
